Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Bridge

Designed for a leaflet for the Theatre and Storytelling Company Roots to Riches for the story A Tale of Two Giants. It was difficult to arrive at this image because the director and I for some reason got stuck on the idea of feet (Giants' vs. children's feet). We finally scrapped that idea and out of the void this one arose. A Tale of Two Giants is comprised of two stories: Jack and the Beanstalk and Mollie Whuppie. In the latter story, Mollie escapes from the giant via a bridge. A photo of Jimi Hendrix and a mention of the film 'Rainbow Bridge' suddenly conjured up the proto-image for this linocut. The image of the rainbow (bridge) comes from the painting 'An Assembly of Witches' by Frans Francken (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna).
